Perfect Love Drives Out Fear

"There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love." - 1 John 4:18

Sometimes, it feels like loving others is where we experience the most fear—fear of rejection, disappointment, or hurt. It can be scary to put ourselves out there, especially with those we care about most. So how can Scripture say, "There is no fear in love"?

Maybe this is more about being loved than simply loving. Perhaps our fears reveal that we haven't fully received God's love. Imagine if we truly believed that the King of Creation loves us deeply and is committed to raising us up into all He made us to be. What freedom would that bring?

God's love is not based on our performance or worthiness—He loves us because that's who He is. That kind of love gives us the freedom to choose how we respond, even when we've gone our own way. Yet, it's always the love of our wise and capable Father that draws us back home.

Let's pray:

Almighty God—King of Creation—I see You and I love You. I see You in Your Word, in Your Creation, and most of all in the Cross. I see You, Lord, and I love You. Amen.

Are you ready to let love drive out all your fear? Let's go forward together in that freedom.
